I just had to pass on this article for your reading pleasure - it regales the story of 40 drunken santas going wild in Auckland yesterday. Apparently the naughty recalcitrants went crazy and even attacked a Christmas tree and threw beer bottles. I hope no kids saw it, but the story is funny and well worth a read
Ho Ho Ho!
Well almost! It sure has crept up on me this year. There’s been a lot of hoo-har in the media about the PC of Christmas, and I read somewhere that in a Canberra shopping centre the traditional Christmas tree that people put presents under for the under-priveleged has been banned, just incase someone puts a bomb in a package under the tree.
I don’t know. What a pile of nonsense this whole ban Santa thing is. Personally, given the stinking hot heat here in Australia, I think all those guys who line up to play Santa should be congratulated. It can’t be easy having a bunch of whinging little kids lining up to sit on your lap, demanding the latest PSP or whatever else they want that invariably costs $300 plus, and then looking about for some free lollies. Argh! Or is that Bah Humbug?
We have a fairly wide range of cultures and backgrounds here in Australia, and part of the problem is apparently that kids of people who are not Christians, don’t think that we should ‘force’ the whole Santa thing and Christian type festivals upon them in schools. Too bad so sad I reckon. When in Rome…… That would be like me moving to a different country and then having a big belly ache about what’s gone on in their country for yonks. If I didn’t approve I guess I could always leave!
As for possible bombs under the Christmas tree in the shopping centre, well, that is a very sad reflection of the state of the world today. I guess it is not outside the realms of possibility. But neither is a suicide bomber strolling into a packed shopping centre…..
Ho Ho Ho! Let Santa rule I say!
Many Australians are heavy hearted this morning with the knowledge that convicted drug trafficker Van Nguyen was taken to the gallows at Changi prison in Singapore just over an hour ago.
Nguyen, who is 25, was arrested three years ago at Singapore airport with heroin. He admitted his guilt. Singapore has a mandatory death sentence for drug smugglers.
I feel particularly sad for his mother. I feel very sad for all involved.
I pray that none of my children ever become caught up in drugs - ever.
